So, get the steamer and a 6 inch metal scraper and this should help remove the wallpaper. When you use the steamer, the wallpaper will peel off of the wall down to the sheet rock. Sometimes the front layer of the wallpaper will peel off and then you can soak down the backing that is left. Do this with a pump up sprayer with a wallpaper mixture in it and pull or scrape the backing off. Take your time, and try not to gouge the wall too much. Each time you gouge, you have to fix it. More work.

Paper backed or solid sheet vinyl is another very durable type of wallpaper. It is almost like vinyl coated wallpaper, except that it has a layer of pulp or paper on the back. It is still very moisture-resistant and easy to clean, so it works well in any room. Fabric backed vinyl can be a little more tricky. It is usually more durable than coated fabric, but not necessarily as durable as paper backed or solid sheet, or vinyl coated wallpaper. It consists of fabric with vinyl, but the fabric layer is not always coated. So be careful to fully inspect this type of wallpaper before purchasing it for your decorating job.

Take Care with Patterns When you are trying to increase the size of a room visually, using wallpaper devoid of pattern is usually the best way to go, because patterns can visually shrink a room. If your wallpaper has a very large pattern in it, you can overpower a space with the pattern and actually make the room feel much smaller than it is.
