The most common types of wallpaper available are: vinyl coated, coated fabric, paper backed vinyl or solid sheet vinyl, and fabric backed vinyl. Vinyl coated wallpaper is not only the most popular type of wallpaper, but is also the most durable type. Because it is treated with vinyl acrylic, it is tough, moisture resistant, and easy to clean. Therefore, it is best suited for any type of room, but is most commonly used in bathrooms, kitchens, and childrens bedrooms. Often, a more artistic license can be taken with coated fabric wallpaper. This wallpaper is exactly what it sounds like: fabric coated with liquid vinyl. However, be careful with this wallpaper-it is not at all moisture resistant, and is therefore only really appropriate for low-moisture rooms such as libraries, living rooms, or bedrooms, not kitchens or bathrooms.
Desktop wallpapers are the first thing a user sees when they sit down at the computer for work or play. They bring color to a black and white world especially for the office worker who has to stare at words or crunch numbers all day. There are numerous usages for wallpaper, mostly as decoration. Retro wallpaper can also change the mood of a contemporary space by making it more fun and homey. Used in a childrens room, it brightens up the décor with color and pattern and can create a warm and friendly space for play and rest. Retro wallpaper works best in a contemporary space when the colors are unified in the space. Furniture of the mid to late 20th century featured polished chrome, molded plastic, and laminate surfaces. Bright and colorful pieces were popular, as well as rounded or asterisk shapes. When picking out the wallpaper, there are several things to remember. Shinny finishes on wallpaper will tend to highlight any texture or imperfections on the walls that are to be covered. If you are dealing with a textured wall, try and pick a wallpaper that will disguise (hide) the texture. The other option would be to have a sheet rock contractor come in a smooth out the texture. Some textures are less noticeable than others. Be aware that dark colored wallpapers will tend to show their seems slightly more that light colors. Large repeats in the pattern match will cause more waste and more wallpaper. Some wallpapers are pre-pasted and some are not. Carefully align it next to the pencil mark, starting at the top, leaving about 2 inches wrapped onto the crown or ceiling. Continue to align the edge to the pencil mark down the wall. Use your smoothing tool to smooth out the wallpaper and the bubbles. That care not to treat the wallpaper to aggressive or it will tear. Use your 6 putty knife to hold wallpaper down as you use a razor blade to trim top and bottom. use 1 blade per cut! Take care to wash the wallpaper with a soft sponge and towel dry.
